Vocal Herd Story

Vision
Vocal Herd aims to change habits—gently and with joy. Everyday choices, particularly those at mealtime, have the potential to make a significant impact. To help, we created a plant-based food habit tracking tool. With the founding of Vocal Herd, we hope to incentivize making plant-based choices that are good for people, the planet, and, of course, the animals.

We don’t believe it is controversial to state that factory-farmed animals deserve better. Animals need advocates, voices in their favor. Our name originates in this belief: animals need vocal members of their herd.

Zoe Robertson (co-founder)
Zoe hopes to create a greener, kinder world through ending factory farming. Her interest in animal welfare began with a joke from her grandfather. While enjoying chicken wings together, he commented “There must be a lot of wingless chickens running around to make this many wings.” This remark, however unserious, was the catalyst she needed to adopt vegetarianism at 14. Since then, Zoe has converted to veganism and become a vocal animal advocate.

During her undergraduate years at Yale University, she worked with the Law, Ethics and Animals program and published an article exploring the origins of industrial chicken farming in the United States.

Zoe is now a student at Stanford Law School. She is co-president of both the Food and Animal Law Society and the Stanford Animal Protection Project (a pro bono organization).

Geoffrey Robertson (co-founder)
Geoff has always enjoyed animals–he lives in a household with five cats and one dog—but, he first became interested in adopting a plant-based diet primarily for his health.

As his family grew more interested in the ethical arguments for veganism, he too began to take greater interest in the supporting data. Although he does not consume an exclusively plant-based diet, Geoff wants to help himself, and others, to become more imperfectly plant-based using Vocal Herd.

Geoff has been in the digital eCommerce and marketing space for 30 years. He was most recently a board member for i.c. stars and the Vice President of Global eCommerce and Innovation for Grainger, Inc. Geoff graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BS degree in business administration.
